Module 2: Cartography Lab
This week's lab saw us utilize cartographic techniques such as data management within metadata, visual hierarchy, map essentials and hands on ArcPro experience. We learned about proper color use such as blue for water and black for cities and other landmarks, along with having a proper contrast between areas of focus such as the red Escambia counties on the Florida inset map. Utilizing cartographic techniques, we were able to utilize data from FGDL and other sources to represent a makeshift map of the location of our university, UWF. Adding essential map elements such as a north arrow, legend and scale bar, we can represent our data to the viewer in a clear and concise manner. The end result is as shown, a map with centrally focused information about UWF and its place within our world.
Creating this map was a nice refresher on map basics and helped to reinforce mapmaking dos and don'ts for the rest of this semester.
